Google Street View Update for Real Estate Listings: Is It Worth It?

Updated October 27, 2026 · For Agents

A Google Street View update puts current, street-level imagery of a listing on Google Maps, so buyers who look up the address see the home as it is today instead of a years-old view. It matters most for new construction, remodels and homes whose public image shows a construction site, an old paint color or nothing at all.

Almost every buyer who finds your listing will also type the address into a map. They want to see the street, the neighbors, the drive to the freeway, the view from the curb. What they find there is not something you control in the MLS, and it is often the least flattering image of the home anywhere online.

Why does Google Street View matter for a listing?

Think about the path a buyer takes. They see the listing on a portal or your social post, scroll the photos, then open a map to get a sense of place. The street-level view is often the first thing they see that you did not produce. If it shows a dated exterior, a dumpster from a remodel, or a lot that was still dirt, it quietly contradicts everything in your listing photos.

Buyers do not always realize the image is old. They just see a house that looks different from the one in your listing, and that small doubt follows them into the showing. For sellers who just spent real money on paint, landscaping or a full renovation, it is frustrating to have the oldest picture of their home sitting right next to the newest.

The same is true for buyers' agents and lenders who look a property up, and for anyone your seller's neighbors send the link to. It is a public view of the home, and it is worth getting right.

What does a Street View update actually change?

Here is the plain version. The add-on adds current 360 imagery of the property to Google Maps, tied to the location, so people looking the home up have an up-to-date view available. It shows the home as it looks at the time of the shoot.

Here is what it does not do, because agents ask:

We would rather set that expectation clearly than oversell it. For the right listing, it is a small add-on that closes a visible gap.

Which San Luis Obispo County listings benefit most?

Not every home needs it. If the public image is recent and the house looks the same, skip it. It earns its place on listings like these:

How do you check whether a listing needs one?

Before the listing appointment, look the address up yourself. It takes a minute and it is useful prep for the conversation with the seller.

  1. Open the address in Google Maps and drop into the street-level view.
  2. Check the capture date shown in the view, if one is displayed.
  3. Compare what you see to the home today: exterior color, landscaping, driveway, roof, fencing, the house itself.
  4. Note anything a buyer would find confusing or unflattering.

If the view is current and accurate, you are done. If it shows a different-looking house, add the update when you build the shoot. Bringing that observation to a listing appointment also shows the seller you are paying attention to details other agents skip, which is the same idea we cover in our post on photography for listing appointments.

How does it fit with the rest of the listing media?

Every booking already includes listing photography, a floor plan showcase with measurements and a property website. The Street View update sits alongside those as one of the add-ons, with aerial photos and video, a 3D/360 tour, reels, twilight and virtual staging.

The pieces support each other. The property website gives buyers a single place for photos, the floor plan and details; you can see what that looks like on our Foxtrot listing, and we explain the strategy in our post on property websites for listings. Aerials show the lot, the neighborhood and the distance to the coast or vineyards. A current street-level view fills the gap between the two: what the home looks like from the road, right now.

If a seller has spent money on curb appeal, it makes sense to show it everywhere a buyer might look.

What should sellers do before the shoot?

The street-level view shows the front of the home and the street, so the prep is mostly exterior:

Most of this overlaps with what sellers already do for exterior listing photos, so it does not add work. Our prep sheet has the full list to forward.

Is a Street View update worth it?

For a home whose public image is current, no. For a new build, a renovation or a property the street view barely shows, it is a simple fix for something buyers notice even when they do not say so. It is also one of those details that sellers appreciate when you point it out, because most of them have never looked.

So the short answer: check the address before the listing appointment, and add it when the gap is real.

How do I add it to a shoot?

Build the shoot on the booking page, add the Google Street View update along with anything else the listing needs, and see the price as you go. Adding more add-ons unlocks bundle savings. Questions agents ask

What is a Google Street View update for a listing?

It is an add-on that puts current, street-level 360 imagery of the property on Google Maps, so buyers who look the address up see the home as it is now instead of an old image.

Can you remove Google's own Street View images of a house?

No. Google controls its own drive-by imagery and decides when it is refreshed. The update adds current imagery of the property; it does not delete Google's.

Which listings benefit most from a Street View update?

Homes where the public image is badly out of date: new construction, major remodels, new landscaping or paint, and rural or hillside properties where the street view shows little of the home.

How do I add a Google Street View update to a shoot?

Choose it as an add-on when you build the shoot on the booking page. The price updates as you go.
